Prince Charming

And he came to her in springtime
When the sun was shining bright
Spreading rays of warmth around her
Talking long into the night
And he told her not to fear him
Take his hand this sunny day
He would be her shining beacon
Whether near or far away
-her song would play…

And he shared with her his wisdom
And the life that he had lived
And he told her she was beautiful
That she had so much to give
And that God had truly touched her
She would soon be on her way
From cocoon into a butterfly
Flying through the clouds of grey
-she was on her way…

And the night she finally came to him
Was beautiful indeed
For he held her and he kissed her
Touched with passion and with need
So she called him her Prince Charming
Hair of gold and eyes of blue
Laid her head upon his shoulder
Peaceful sleep the whole night through
-with eyes so blue…

And she spoke a silent prayer each night
For this ray of hope God sent
Looking forward to her Prince’s touch
And time together spent
Even though he had to leave
He told her he would be back soon
So she sent him hugs and kisses
And her love to see him through
-her love was true…

Well, the days had passed through summer’s heat
Into the coming fall
And she waited for her lover
But there never was a call
And she finally cried herself to sleep
That first of autumn’s night
For she missed her Prince and his love
Where was he, her guiding light?
-this autumn night…

And he never came to see her
And he never called again
And the words he’d spoken to her
Blew away dead on the wind
Then sadness overcame her
And she cried right where she lay
Her Prince was gone, he took her heart
And trust and went away
-so far away…

So she picked herself up from the cold
And came inside to heal
And she put her trust in God above
That He would truly feel
The anguish and the loneliness
And humility inside
And He found for her a guiding light
This time a man of pride
-a guiding light…

A man that she could truly trust
With all her fears and doubts
Who picked her up and
Helped her find the way above the clouds
Who lifted her above the pain
To step into the light
Who took away Prince Charming’s lies
So she would be alright
-and the butterfly took flight…

Shattered

Dismal image centered in the black
Hangs for a moment in the void
Chards of darkened glass
Shower the dark earth below
Flicker of light as the face
Gasps for its last breath
The image cries out as it dies
Black ball crushed between my hands

The vision sinks beneath
Into the crystal pool that covers abysmal depths
Filled with the distant memories
Of pain and lost love
Of shattered dreams and broken promises
The priest with collar and flowing robe
Veil of evil and sickness
The cherub sent to her death
Never to breathe in from outside the womb
The teacher of empty words
Of selfish desires, of lust and false security

They drown in this pool of sorrow
Never to see surface light
Only to feel the shiver of cold
And hang in this tomb of darkness
The shadow of endless night
Swim in relentless redemption
Liquid swill of suffocating judgment
As her face turns upward, victorious

The Longing

I hear your smile as God moves through your journey,
guiding you through new thoughts of purpose and blessing
I kiss you deeply in my dreams each night
wanting to please you as the sun’s rays give life each day
I wait in light and in shadow as the wind carries
news of your happiness and peace to me
The presence of joy gives purpose for my heart to beat
the rhythmic dance of loving you. It is you, beloved, I long to see
The taste of my breath sweet upon my lips as I speak your name,
feel the soft caress of your hands on my face, my skin –
I reach to find you and long to see you again, my prince –

Eye Of Man

It is nonsensical
to me that
the wind from
your eyes should
blow so lightly
over the landscape,
lifting every particle
that is woman
onto the cool rush
of your look,
caressing my body
as I hover aloft
eyeing the tangle of
sinew and vein
branching in your arms,
wondering if I will alight
there, to be nearer
to the throbbing in
your chest, as I imagine
its gentle echoes, inside
the caverns of my chest.

I found
an ant colony
in a wine bottle / a chaotic group
I found no order or efficiency
no familiar ant uniformity.
This was a group of revelers
Bohemians who preferred
Thunderbird Wine
over
a normal mound
of dirt.

Windowsill

The windows
of that house
glow unshuttered
and open
to the morning pale
and evening rush
of cool wind
through a house
that has
made peace
with its ghost,
unless, for a moment
it glimpses
your memory
fluttering just out of reach,
resting on the sill
for only the briefest flicker
before it lifts its arms
to be taken up by the sky,
then, that house
is haunted
once again,
and all the light
in the world
cannot exorcise
its darkened space.

Entropy
I was standing, no staring
At my window when it began
Windy patters on window sill
Clang clops, spinning tops
Introns bounding, life's directions
Less a few, mutate regressions

A catalyst plays in the rain
A child, brown hair
Blue steel eyes, no discretion
She came as a surprise
And left much more sudden
Then flaring flags of circus tents
The resonance is nowhere?

The eyes of the man we call disturbed
Trail my own
Entropy is a little different
For us, now, without our clothes
And distressed
Not being impressed
Anymore

Nothing

So many things are nothing,
and yet maybe they are something.
Perhaps they are not nothing;
We should ponder it in our minds.
That these things really aren’t nothing,
just something that does nothing for us.
To stimulate our minds or teach us anything,
while all of this means nothing to us,
it may mean something to someone else.
It is what some people are meant to do.
It is someone’s career.
It is someone’s life.

Forbidden Fruit

The missing ovary at seventeen
did not seem as edible to me
as the sweet California oranges
drooping on belly shaped trees.

The girl in the other bed cried
all night on her side of the room
because she couldn't have kids,
and I joked with the night nurse

in my codeine haze, imagined
sweet drippings on my tongue,
stretch marked rinds on the floor,
one mouthful of bitter seed,

the part you spit out afterwards,
fleshy strips clinging to teeth.

Song of Love

Where was I not so long ago
Caught up in myself
Moving through each passing day
My feelings in a bottle on a shelf

Through the clouds I saw your smiling face
It is with you I belong
My feelings poured out from the glass and words fell
Into place to write this song, my song of love for you

Chorus: My song of love to say you mean the world to me
Our love so strong, our lives are joined this day eternally

Take this ring as you stand here now
Symbol of my love
The promises we make today
Are beautiful and blessed by God above

The fabric of our separate lives
Woven into tapestry
Radiates the shining jewels, laughter
Tears, the melody of song, my song of love for you

Bridge: I have waited for this moment since you first touched my heart
And as we speak these sacred vows know that we will never part

Chorus: My song of love to say you mean the world to me
Our love so strong, our lives are joined this day eternally

My song of love for you, my song of love for you

DEEPLY

Portal of travel, wind flowing through
The door swings slowly open to darkness
Hidden from view

The memories woven through our being
Myriad of color, sound and shape
Channeled within us, bound by our existence

Do I take the road trodden before
Or set a path of my own
Through the thicket of thorns, aura of fear

Dance beneath the darkness
Fill the space surrounding the trees
Beneath a forest moon

Only to soar as the eagle in flight
Rising silently on wind borne wings
Hovering in space and time

The lyrical movement within my mind
The life giving tide touches the shore
Bearing life, breathing, crying out

Diamonds of light shimmer
Praising the light rays that pierce the realm
Passion moves beneath my hand

His everlasting arms give comfort
As the flower petals fold in shielding
The delicate womb of its beginning

We are all one, life so pure intertwined
Our creation a reflection of the face of God
Swimming through a sea of green

Feng Shui This...

I'm not saying
it doesn't exist,
when after all,
I have devoted
entire mornings to
the arrangement
and placement of
hair and makeup
within the space
of my face, and
all of that, just
to be in harmony
with the universe,
or even, maybe...
the mirror on the wall.

Sunset In The South Pacific
by Steve Petersen

I don’t know what day or month
stranded as I am, alone on this
Isle I named Heartbreak………

Name sake for the acts of life
with impact, memory, core effect, soul seared after years, still stir me in the night…….

Until awake, looking at an endless sky. Any place a paradise when loved by someone.
Paradise lost………..when not.

When you find this note, I ask for no rescue. If you are alone, seeking an isle ripe with the fruit
of a passionate heart, follow the current.

We will make this isle Paradise and
I will love you forever……………
